“Bailamos” is the Spanish word for “Let’s Dance,” and dance they did!
The Orlando Ballet’s Companies brought forth a diverse program with a Latin flavor. Artistic director Robert Hill and local TV anchor Ybeth Bruzual provided an interesting commentary that helped even the novice ballet patron understand the local professional ballet company’s vision.
There were contemporary and classical pieces woven together to highlight the technical and artistic gifts of the dancers. The female ballerinas can extend their limbs to the balcony and balance on point forever. The male danseurs can leap to incredible heights and turn until the music demands that they stop.
There is much more to come this season and next. On March 29, The Orlando Ballet II Company will present “Fast Forward,” an experience for the future of dance today. Sunday and Monday the 17th and 18th will complete the weekend with their production of “Peter and the Wolf.” Both of those programs will have live music by the Florida Symphonic Youth Orchestra.
In April, Arcadian Broad’s original music and chorography will produce “Wonderland, Mad Tales of the Hatter” with accompaniment by the Central Florida Community Arts Orchestra.
Next fall, the Harriett’s Orlando Ballet Center is expected to open. On Halloween night, “The Vampire’s Ball” will return even bigger and better at the Dr. Phillips Center’s stage. Next season will have “The Nutcracker” on December 13-15 & 20-23. “Cinderella” is scheduled for February 14-16, 2020. “Made in the USA” will be shown from March 27-29,2020 and “Mowgli, The Jungle Book” plays from May 8-10, 2020.
There is so much to look forward to as “Let’s Dance” continues.
