The Colonialtown South Neighborhood Association laid out their plans for National Night Out (NNO) on Sept. 10. The group met at First Unitarian Church to plan for the yearly event scheduled for Oct. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the same church.

Association President Andre Olejack and Vice President Barbie Nowick asked members to help find donations for the event’s ticket raffle. Last year, donations came from the city and local businesses. The city gave the association four trees to raffle off at the previous event. This year, Nowick estimated a total of 10 trees, a gift card and much more to be given away at the raffle.

Meanwhile, Olejack started a photo contest on the group’s Facebook page called “Where am I in Colonialtown South?” The contest began with an image Olejack posted Sept. 8. The image showed a group of trees standing between East Amelia Street and East Livingston Street.

However, the location was not revealed to members. Olejack explained that members could guess the location one of two ways: posting a similar image of the trees or a screenshot of a map with a pinned location.

Colonialtown South resident Jesy Rose won the contest and two raffle tickets for NNO. Rose expressed excitement for the raffle but also for the opportunity to familiarize herself with the community. She explained how the event helps people become more sustainable in a small community.

“The first year they had a huge solar booth, and I learned so much about switching over to solar and how good it is for your house and neighborhood,” Rose said.

Olejack plans to continue the contest up until the event’s date. Nowick closed the meeting by encouraging members to contact her via Facebook if they would like to set up a booth at the event and to contact Olejack with donations for the raffle.

The association will hold its next meeting on Oct. 8 at the First Unitarian Church at 1901 E Robinson St. at 6:30 p.m.

National Night Out will take place on Oct. 1 at the same location from 6 to 9 p.m. You can enter the raffle contest by joining the Colonialtown South Orlando Facebook group.
