The Christ School, an independent, Christ-centered K – 8 school located in Downtown Orlando, celebrates serving our community at its annual event, One Great Day of Service.
One Great Day of Service will take place on Oct. 25. A meaningful tradition at the Christ School since the event was first implemented in 2001, One Great Day of Service is a day in which all TCS students, teachers, staff members and parent volunteers spend an entire day volunteering at a variety of locations in the Central Florida community.
The Christ School believes that a day of service at all grade levels provides a unique opportunity to learn the Biblical value of serving others and teaches children to be community leaders.
“One Great Day of Service is a special day for us,” TCS student Laila said. “The students get to go out into the community and be a light for Jesus. This is one of my favorite days.”
Each grade will assist with age-specific activities at various community–service facilities with the goal of making a difference to those in our local community. This service opportunity helps our Central Florida friends and neighbors while enhancing the students’ educational experience. Through service, the students learn to look beyond themselves and see the needs of others, gain leadership skills through teamwork and connect with their community.
This year, students and volunteers from he Christ School will serve at the following locations on One Great Day of Service:
- First Presbyterian Church of Orlando Campus
- Westminster Towers Retirement Center
- Gentry Park Retirement Center
- Ronald McDonald House
- Long and Scott Farms
- Clean the World
- Do Good Farms
- Servant’s Heart
- Equine Angels
- Christian Service Center for central Florida’s Daily Bread
